Vogel: Davis Administration’s Secrecy on Public Safety Leadership Is a Serious Risk to Erie County
Vogel blasts Davis administration’s failure to inform the public about leadership vacancy in critical public safety role.
Erie, PA — Christina Vogel, Democratic nominee for Erie County Executive, raised the alarm today over the Brenton Davis administration’s weeks-long silence surrounding the abrupt firing of the County’s Public Safety Director. Reports indicate the official was quietly removed on June 4, yet the administration refused to confirm the firing until June 18 — leaving Erie County residents in the dark for nearly two weeks about a major leadership vacancy in one of the most critical departments in county government. To date, no interim director has been named, and the administration has offered no clear explanation or plan for who is currently leading the department.
“This isn’t just about politics — it’s a public safety issue,” said Vogel. “Creating confusion and risk by refusing to inform the public for weeks after firing the head of a critical department is unacceptable. The Brenton Davis administration’s inability to say who is leading the Department of Public Safety or to appoint an interim director is a serious problem,” said Vogel. “It shows a disturbing lack of transparency, leadership, and basic responsibility. This kind of chaos has no place in county government — especially when public safety is on the line.”
Vogel pledged to restore professionalism and accountability to county government, emphasizing that public safety must never be compromised by secrecy or political dysfunction. “As County Executive, I’ll ensure experienced leadership is in place and communicate clearly with the public, and make decisions rooted in responsibility — not chaos,” she said. “Erie County deserves steady, transparent leadership that puts the safety of our communities first.”
